About

Alan Safewood in the Chickenhouse "studio" at the barn.

Alan Safewood (born Rune Bjelkarøy) is a Norwegian songwriter, singer and guitarist.

Alan lives in the farmland of Lier, on the border of a big forest by the name of Finnemarka. He likes the idea of a safe forest that grows, ages, and eventually makes good soil for the new generation.

Back in his youth Alan liked to draw comic strips for Norwegian magazines, and later he worked as a draftsman at nearby advertising agencies. Drawing and listening to music were his biggest passions - and he could do both at the same time. AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Neil Young and Beatles were his early favorites. When Alan bought his first guitar in 1981, he instantly started to write songs influenced by these artists. The very first song was Lucie written in 1982. Later he made a drawing of Lucie as a songcover for Spotify/YouTube. You can see and hear some of the bands Alan has played in under "HISTORY" on this website.

The relationships between people in all their facets is the theme in some of the songs. Often about a hopeless relationship, told with a dash of humor.

Alan spends a lot of time in the forest, and finds peace of mind there. Thoughts are flowing free, and this is when songs and lyrics come to life.

Mother nature, from the Milky Way to the smallest ant, has become the theme that most often runs throughout his lyrics. Mother Earth is the center of our existence, and a future in which people and the planet thrive together is essential. It´s worth fighting for, and it´s worth singing for.

Alan is donating 20% of his income from streaming music to the protection of our forests by WWF and ClientEarth.
